Kelly O'Sullivan Sommer

Kelly is an alumna of both UC San Diego (B.A., Literature with an emphasis in Russian) and San Diego State University (M.A., Educational Leadership) and has been on staff at UC San Diego for over 30 years and in Global Initiatives since 2004.

With a background in academic advising at both the college and department level, Kelly knows well the value of an international educational experience and the positive impacts it has had on the thousands of students she’s worked with at UCSD over the years.  

Because she was not able to navigate through or find the personal and financial resources to support a study abroad opportunity for herself as an undergraduate, Kelly is more committed than ever to making study abroad accessible to all students at UC San Diego and works hard to reach out to and make resources available to students underrepresented in study abroad, including those in underrepresented ethnicities, majors, and gender (more men should study abroad!).
