Why You Should Go:

The Cadiz Global Seminar Program offers two upper-division courses: one on Spanish Dialectology and the other on the structure, history, and culture of flamenco. Cadiz, a charming small city in the south of Spain, is the oldest in Western Europe. It is an ideal setting for these courses: the local Spanish dialects were instrumental in the development of Latin American Spanish; Cadiz was also the cradle of flamenco. The program includes excursions throughout Southern Spain and flamenco performances in several different venues, featuring top artists.

Meet the Professor:

Before entering academia, John Moore spent several years in Spain studying and performing flamenco guitar; he continues to perform and is well-known in the US flamenco community. Moore joined the Linguistics faculty in 1992, where he specializes in grammatical theory, with an emphasis on Spanish. His current research examines the Spanish spoken in the San Diego-Tijuana border region.
