Application Deadline
The application materials will be available on October 24, 2011, and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis (first come/first serve) until each program is full. Some programs will fill by the end of fall quarter. For the programs that remain open in winter quarter, the application deadline will be March 1, 2012.
Applications will not be reviewed until they are complete. Your application is complete when:
- You have completed the GS Online Application
- You have submitted the GS Supplemental Documents
- Your dean’s office has returned your Judicial Affairs form
- You have turned in the $250.00 non-refundable deposit
Steps to Apply
To complete an application you must complete each of the following steps:
Step 1 and 2 must be completed online. Be sure to continue until the page that clearly indicates you have successfully submitted the online portion of the GS application.
I. GS ONLINE APPLICATION
__ Step 1: PAO Interest Profile
Fill out the UC San Diego Programs Abroad Office Online Interest Profile by logging into MyPAO. Be sure to mark the checkbox that indicates you are applying for a Global Seminar! If you are not a UCSD student, you must first obtain a UCSD personal identification number (PID). UCSD students should also attend a First Steps session if this is your first visit to the Programs Abroad Office.
__ Step 2: Attend a program-specific information session or make an appointment with a Global Seminars advisor.
See the Programs Abroad Office events calendar or the Global Seminars program page for information sesions related to your program of interest. If you are not able to attend an information session or have additional questions, you may make an individual appointment with an advisor by calling 858-534-1123. Non-UCSD students who are not in San Diego may contact globalseminar@ucsd.edu to discuss their interest in the program and receive access to the online application.
After your information session or appointment, log into MyPAO again and click"GS Application" above your program of interest. Fill out all additional information.
__ Step 3: Essay
Your essay should be approximately 500 words. Compose your essay offline in a word processing program, then copy and paste it into the appropriate box in your Global Seminar Online Application. Topic: your academic, career and personal objectives related to your program abroad.
- Include information about relevant extra-curricular and community service activities and explain how these activities demonstrate your personal maturity and ability to adapt to different cultures.
- Include your thoughts on how your study abroad experience will affect or change you.
- Describe your personal characteristics and experiences that will serve you well while you are abroad.
II. GS SUPPLEMENTAL DOCUMENTS
__ Step 4: Prepare the following documents (Adobe Reader required):
- Use this Application Checklist (pdf) to keep track of all of your application documents.
- UC San Diego Waiver of Liability, Assumption of Risk, and Indemnity Agreement (pdf).
Please print and sign this waiver rather than signing it electronically. You may re-scan it after it is signed or turn it in to the Programs Abroad front desk along with your deposit.

- Medical Authorization Form

- Deposit Receipt (pdf)
Complete the receipt and turn it in to the Programs Abroad Office with your check or money order.
- Check or money order for $250.00 non-refundable deposit made out to UC Regents
Your application will not be accepted without the $250 deposit. We are unable to accept cash or credit cards.The deposit is non-refundable except in the case that you are not selected for the program of your choice.
- Judicial Affairs Form (pdf)
NOTE: Turn this form into your College Dean of Student Affairs office ASAP! The person signing the form will return it directly to the Programs Abroad Office. Your application will not be reviewed without this form.
- Health Screening Form (pdf) or Health Screening Form for Rome programs (pdf)
This form requires a physician’s signature.
If you want to complete the health clearance at UCSD Student Health, call Group I at 858-534-2818 to make an appointment. Student Health will ask you to complete an online version of the Health Screening Form. Please pick up the signed form from Student Health at the end of your appointment(s). Student Health will not send in your Health Screening Form for you.
You may also go to your own physician. Be sure to talk to your physician about vaccinations.
If you are applying to multiple programs, please discuss health issues in all relevant countries with your physician. You can use the same Health Screening Form for both programs.
Applications will be accepted without this form, but all health forms are due no later than March 1, 2012. If you are having trouble making an appointment, please contact globalseminar@ucsd.edu.
- Unofficial transcript
UC San Diego students should print your academic history from TritonLink. Transfer students, please include an unofficial transcript from the school that you transferred from.
NOTE: First year/transfer students who do not have a UC San Diego GPA should turn in an updated transcript at the start of Winter Quarter.
- One photocopy of your VALID passport or passport application receipt
Non-US Citizens: copies of your country of origin passport and resident card
Copy the pages showing a recognizable photo, passport number, expiration date, and signature. Your passport must be VALID for 6 months after your projected return from abroad. If you do not have a passport, apply for one now and turn in a legible copy of your passport application receipt.
__ Step 5: Sign all original documents electronically or print and sign. Make an additional copy for your own records.
__ Step 6: Save or scan all documents to your computer, then upload them to the My Documents section of your MyPAO account.
__ Step 7: You will be notified by e-mail about your application status within a few weeks after your application is complete.
If you are unable to upload supplemental documents to MyPAO, you may also turn in hard copies at the Programs Abroad Office or mail them to:
